Networking is key: and the most powerful marketing tool for your business. To get your business off the ground you want to make sure you properly network yourself and your business. The makeup artist industry is a very competitive industry and word of mouth can make all the difference to the success of your freelance business. Talk to people wherever you go weddings, airplanes, events and get your name out there. Network and make contacts whenever possible. Always exchange your contact information, make sure to have your business cards on you at all times. Networking is all about building those long term trusting relationships, building them and keeping them strong. Maintain a strong circle of contacts, create a referral network, follow up with clients and build trust. mlw831 thanks for sharing that insight! I’m actually sort of shocked that the Avon model is so…ancient? In my experience buying from direct sales companies, most makeup companies send the product directly to the customer and the representative simply does just that – represent, without holding any kind of inventory or having to do any travel other than parties they can plan in their own time (and they’re not even necessary). Good info for anyone considering Avon who may not have the time or energy to hand deliver each order.
I think with direct sales, the most important things to consider are: (1) research into the company, it’s policies, fees, and requirements; it’s history and reputation (2) connecting with a team that will help you and cares about your own goals for your business, not their goals (3) finding a company that you are excited about and have confidence in the product and mission.
The second was Arbonne. Very expensive to start up, and my sponsor I signed under said although I was partly disabled, she would take care of getting my customers for me. After 5 shows and about $1,000 out of pocket personally, I saw her plan. She had large demo parties, but wasn’t knowledgeable about makeup. Do my job was to do demos and show application tips individual to each person. Ladies loved it, and it was fun. But after each one where I had spent hours setting up and working with clients, my sponsor took credit for all sales, and added and new consultants under her or her daughter. Likewise, she said it was a Christian group of women, yet each time I was around her, she was cussing and yelling at her children.
Sylvestermouse, sellers have had their ups and downs with eBay, but overall it has been a good place to work. I’m glad you found some other useful information here, too. There are lots of alternatives for both sourcing and selling and I’m happy to share. Thanks for stopping by!
Rom-com hard hitters Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks star in another classic movie that weaves the intersection of virtual and physical lives with the story of two business rivals that fall in love online but don’t know that they already have a real-life relationship.
Things might have not looked so good for me on the outside, mainly because I wasn’t taking the path that a majority of my peers were, but on the inside I always believed in myself. There wasn’t a doubt in my mind that I would find a way to become successful at something. I knew myself, and I knew that was enough.
